Heh! How cool to be able to say, "My nephew is one of the Thumpermonkeys."
Mark and Mary... are you really having haggis? Are you having it at a restaurant with bagpipes and all?
Yep, there is a strong element of avuncular pride involved :-)
Of course we had a haggis! We dined at home on a Macsween haggis with neeps and tatties. The neeps are what the Scots call turnip and the English call swede - the orange one - source of regular confusion. The neeps are "bashed" and the potatoes are "champit" or mashed as we would say.
The recommended wine is an Australian Shiraz (aka Syrah) so that is what we had. Plus I had to have a wee dram to toast the "Great chieftain o the puddin' race". My head told me the next morning that it was not so wee.
