Cisternino, Puglia, Italy. Saturday/Sunday 01/02-July-2023.
We had our friend Andrea visiting us for a week. She arrived the evening of our last night in France so had to make do with her own company overnight until we arrived the next morning in time for lunch.
This was the first night's entertainment. Exactly the same format as last year's Borgo Divino In Tour 2022. For €18 you get a voucher for eight tasting and a glass (€2 deposit). According the Borgo diVino website there were 50 exhibitors though it did seem like quite that many, I would have guessed 30.
We were joined by our friends Steve and Trudi and off we set.
Local varietals: Negroamaro, Nero di Troia and Primitivo.
Carvinea - a organic producer further south near Carovigno (do I detect a play on words?)
Montemarcuccio do an lovely white Verdeca called Primi Filari. Previously only sold to the hospitality trade they have expanded and now sell to the general public - excellent!
They also do a frizzante, an Ottavianello red. and a rosato, all excellent.
Torre Pagus, north east of Naples.
The fair was quiet at first but as darkness fell the Italians come out. There was music playing which was enough to set a couple the exhibitors dancing the Pizzica in their stall.
Penultimate wine of the evening.
And the last wines, more Pugliese wines, Nardo D.O.C. from Schola Sarmenti.
We had some unused vouchers because not stall holders bothered to score off the tokens. As last year we went back the next day to finish them off.
Last stop was a qualified sommelier (his discreet, gold tastevin lapel badge told us this) who was pouring out very small, voucher-free measures of a fine Chianti.
That's it for another year but I am sure they will be back.
