Cisternino, Puglia, Italy. Friday 02-June-2023.
The music season starts! Every summer there are lots of free music concerts in the town. This was the first, postponed from several weeks earlier when rains had been forecast. I had to google International Jazz Day to discover it is 30th April and is a UNESCO initiative.
As usual the stage is set up in front of the Torre Normanno Sveva, opposite the Chiesa Madre church, in Piazza Garibaldi. The road was closed from 20:00 but as expected the music didn't start to much later, closer to 22:00.
We plonked ourselves in the cafe diagonally opposite, PG il villa. Under the previous owners they only had a couple of small bar tables and high stools on the pavement outside but the new owners have obviously persuaded the council to let them fence off three, blue parking bays opposite and set out proper tables and chairs. Thus we were able to sit with our drinks and enjoy the music in comfort.
We enjoyed a good hour of relaxing, late evening jazz. A great start to a summer of live music.
